Our program balances teacher-planned and child-initiated learning, emphasizing responsiveness to children’s strengths, interests, needs, and learning styles using the nationally-known, play-based Creative Curriculum. This curriculum emphasizes four main goals for growth and development. They are Social/Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Language development. We carefully plan and maintain balance between freedom and guidance, group and individual activities, and active and quiet learning for each child. Children happily attain the varied social, emotional, and academic skills needed for Kindergarten and beyond.
Field trips are an added bonus to our curriculum as they serve to allow the children to explore beyond the confines of their familiar surroundings. Our field trips take us all over the Washington Metropolitan Area and you can be sure that it involves culture, the arts and music. Some of the places we visit are The Smithsonian Institute’s Discovery Theater, Glen Echo Park, Cox Farm, Martin Luther King Swimming Center and Reston Farm Park. We even learn a little etiquette as we will often take a ride on our transit system and visit a local restaurant. The children really enjoy a break in the regular routine and will often ask to go on a field trip. Permissions slips are required and in some cases a fee as well.
